It is our actions of the present day that holds the key to the future. Yet, there seems to be a mad fascination about predicting the future. Different people have different reasons for their desire of having a peek into the future. Some believe that knowing what the future beholds would make them better placed to face it. Some other, especially, the corporate establishments and businessmen, depend heavily on future forecasts to chalk out their plans, thereby raising their levels of profit. Astrology and Statistical Science-both are used to predict the future, albeit differently.
Since time immemorial, people have been fascinated by the art that’s used to predict the future. Several aspects of astrology like Chinese Astrology, Vedic Astrology, Tarot cards, Numerology, Feng Shui etc. have been utilized to predict the future. Each of these branches of astrology has its own ardent fans.
Tug of War-Astrology or Science?
The prophecies of Nostradamus made long ago could be taken as a pointer in the case of making forecasts. Though making forecasts was the domain of gypsies in the erstwhile era and still is to a lesser extent, the scenario at present is quite different. In this 21st century, the quest to predict the future has been undertaken by science though astrology also remains a perennial favorite of many.
The debate of whether astrology is a science or not continues till date. However, not enough proof has been put forward in astrology’s favor which would give it the coveted title of “Science”. Yet, you cannot but ignore its contribution towards predicting the future.
Forecast does not refer to various aspects of astrology only. When a person invests in a share by studying its past performances, a company plans its future endeavors based on market research, sales are predicted on the basis of past records-all are trying in their own way to predict the future. So, you can see that science is also an integral part when you take the onus of “how to predict the future”.
Even literature reflects it
Not only real life, even fiction, especially fantasy literature, boasts of a good dose of forecast and prophecy.
“The lord of the Rings” by J.R.R. Tolkien features several characters having powers to either foresee the future or feel vaguely what’s going to happen. Even in the famous Harry Potter series, the character of Professor Sybill Trelawney has the power to predict the future.
Debate continues
When onepredicts the future, how far it gives valid results is still a debatable issue. However, due to the inquisitive nature of man, predicting the future would continue to hold its own fort.
